My parents were more incline to give commands rather than ask and even less incline to explain the reason why they gave a particular command. I have often heard “because I said so” or “I'm the parent you just do what you're told”. Both my parents are baby boomers and I believe while their generation enjoyed great prosperity in this country, they also had some difficult and scary times they had to deal with, for example Vietnam War and the Cuban missile crisis.
